About Us

Tajodds is owned and operated by Taj Rossi and a consortium of experienced race assessors. Over the past 30 years "Taj" and team have refined the traditional Don Scott approach to race ratings to bring THE most accurate race day assessment available.

The website was developed after many people talking to us about the frustrations of spending big $ on commercial ratings systems that did not perform. There are hundreds of "products" out there that will take your money! We guarantee tajodds will outperform them all over time and not charge you a red cent!

Tajodds has posted the Ace Tip on the web nowsince May 2006 for a consistent 28% strike rate for ONE selection at an average price of $6 - this is UNMATCHED by any fee for service product. If you disagree we would LOVE to hear about it!

The team

Taj - Gordo has been assessing and revising his approach since the early 1980s. He is the 'assessor' and has an astute mind for sorting out horses NOT suited in each race, leaving him a small band of key runners to rate. 85% of winners come from his average 4.2 rated chances per race.

Harry T - Harry helps out with admin and updating the website from time to time, especially when Taj is away on long cycling trips!

Rancher - Rancher helps out assessing during the big Sydney Autumn carnival as he is local with better on the ground knowledge, but Taj still does the final ratings

Sammy - Ace Tip selector. The Ace has been going for over 10 years now but only posted online since 2006. The 'Ace' must meet strict criteria but the main one is being top rated by Taj and being good value.

Taj Snr (Lethal) - the original Taj pops in from time to time with some advice or tip. Reckons Taj puts too much spin on his website!

If you only have one betting account you limit your chances, but there are still some basic things you can do:

1. If you just have a TAB account and you are keen to back something fixed odds, check the Live Odds Comparison on the RH margin and IAS to see if they are offering fixed odds. If they are offering better then don't bet as it is likely your fixed odds may lengthen anyway or back it thru the TAB non fixed
2. The best option is to have a Betfair account, TAB, IAS and perhaps one other. Often one of these makes a major error in price OVER the others and if that is the horse you are after, take that price. If they have made a major error e.g. offered $22 instead of $2.20 take it heavily. This happens once a month if you watch carefully but make sure it is the one you want!
3. If you are not sure about fixed odds being value then use an account like IAS where you can choose the "best Fluctuation". Serious punters would work the rails trying to get this best of odds, now you can CHOOSE it!! Take advantage of it if you are a big investor
4. If the horse you want is a major tip also on the media e.g. Sky, 3UZ, it may pay to back it fixed odds but make sure you check around first. There is nothing more frustrating than taking $4 on IAS when they first put it up and then finding the TAB fixed odds are still $6!!! If you only had an IAS account you would hold off and go down the pub to back it fixed on the TAB.
5. Media tips invariably pay poorly on the SP. When our Ace Tip is also a tip from the media we generally look for early fixed odds as these markets are not as influenced by 'tipsters'
6. For the Ace Tip that is not a media 'special' (what we seek) then don't jump in too early and consider accepting either best fluctuation or TAB start price. Despite being the best value around the Ace Tip is just one of thousands of tips available and very few people know about us.
7. We all make errors of judgment, but some simple rules can help you be consistent in how you behave race day. Draw up some rules of how, when and what you will bet on and stick to this for 3 months then review. Don't change weekly.

It is easier to list WHEN NOT TO BET!

Cross off all races where:

• The track has changed condition or is 'shifty' in condition
• The track is rated heavy
• There are first starters in the top 4 rated chances
• 2yo races
• Weak country or provincial restricted races
• Maidens
• Too many chances
• Races where the Tajodds top rater is no value 9i.e. is you can't get better odds than Tajodds price
• Races rated as "poor" betting/high risk

So.....when to BET???

• Choose races that Tajodds rate as "good" betting races as these avoid the above factor
• Bet on the horses that are in this race if you can get better than tajodds value
• Bet on each runner to WIN a set amount or RETURN a set amount
• Use these value selections to select exotic form of betting e.g. doubles, quinellas, trifectas and quaddies but be consistent in whatever you choose
• The Ace Tip must meet all the criterion above so it is a good start, and in fact if you focus solely around this selection you will gain most benefit. Straight out, to win a set amount or used in box exotics.

Other advice!

• Limit your punting selections - focus around 1 to 3 per week. If this doesn't suit your entertainment needs that is your issue and not related to profit investment.
• Make sure you have a REAL 'bank' (most punters don't, they just bet what they have each week and have little discipline) If betting straight out like our Ace Tip selections then you need to bet 2.5% of your bank as it grows or declines. So, if you have a $1000 bank, then you bet $25 win on each selection. You will see that even the 32% strike rate of Ace Tip had a long run of outs. Be prepared for long runs of losses.
• NEVER increase bets to chase losses
• NEVER increase betting after wins, until your bank at least doubles (.e. grows to $2000, therefrore you can bet $50 on each selection) or use the 2.5% method based on your growing or declining bank
• DON"T be in a hurry - cumulative profit will grow over the year if you are selective and disciplined.
• RECORD your bets! No sly ones on the side !!
• Consider betting 25 % win and 75% place if the horse is over $10

The Rated chances win 85% of the races assessed (15% of winners come from outside our avg 4.1 rated chances). This beats all the high priced commercial products by around 20%. Group races are 90% !!!!

These figures are updated weekly but given we have posted publically for 2 years + they are now consistent. Since the website took over the postings the results have been above average.The Ace Tip summary is updated every week//

Unlike some commercial ratings, our statistics are accurate and do not manipulate people into purchase (we are not selling anything!). We have even avoided placing adverts on our website to keep it simple and speedy to load.

All Tajodds Ratings have a common denominator of Kg in weight. Certain barriers at certain tracks have a DISADVANTAGE but it is no where near as important as many punters think. Some even have an ADVANTAGE. Based on our statistics here are our current barrier ratings for the following tracks (based on dead to fast): It is easy to read e.g 1000 - 1 (+1.5) simply means at this track barrier 1 has a 1.5kg advantage. If the figure in brackets is a negative it means it has a disadvantage as indicated. 12+ would mean all barriers from number 12 and further out. If there is no statistical significance then it becomes "no disadvantage".

Look....we know many of the schemes....most are founded by mugs who are ok at IT stuff but couldn't pick their nose. Most of them just use the free media tips, post by 12 noon and charge people for the info!!! Honest! Then they spin how their selections won so many races but anyone who knows the punt game can see through their spin. Please don't waste your money. TAJODDS APPRAISAL OF COMMERCIAL RATINGS SYSTEMS

Tajodds can be direct, open and honest in its appraisal of ratings systems because they are no competition to our service.... we have the best assessors and are free...and no ads! If you have purchased a ratings or tipster service and would like it assessed just contact us. Here are our comments about a couple of new services on the block and what they charge.

1. Champion Picks

The first bit of spin is a guarantee to win. Then you read that the guarantee is not to return your money but to give you more of the same. In fact they'll double your subscription time! The service loses you a heap and they want to give you more! I have had several people contact me regards losing big money with this service. HOWEVER...they are accountable and have sent me their newsletter FREE tips results. From Jan to January they had 33% strike rate but the winners only averaged a price at just over $2.60 so a loss over all.

The full service cost is $1998 per annum

2. Expertform

Somewhat new compared to some services out there but the experience in their assessors is sound. Anecdotal evidence is that they have slipped in quality since beginning but this is not unusual in a tough industry. They give a huge coverage Australia wide and results are VERY consistent. Tajodds has now assessed their best bets and over the last 4 months they have all made a loss (Best from each meet, long shots, and 'facts' horses. There is a bit of spin but that is hard to avoid if you are marketing your product for profit.

The cost of Expertform Rates is $2640 per year. This is out of the reach of your average punter, but we consider it value if you need a broad coverage of services across Australia. Our advice is it the best of the commercially available systems so if you have the money available it is not wasted here. HOWEVER, it will not guarantee you a profit If their BEST BETS can't find a profit there is reason for concern

3. Racing & Sports

What a fantastic service overall, but don't purchase anything! The tipsters or specials are of no value in our opinion, but the website support to the industry is HUGE. If you like stats on jockeys, trainers, courses, horses etc etc this is the place to go! The HUGE problem is they can't handle the traffic to the site which is clogged up with advertisements and freezes most days.

4 Bet a Day

The Bet a Day racing system is an SMS service. You receive the "tip" at least 15mins before start time. Cost is high at $80/month so up near $1000 per year and you get at least 20 tips. The crew running the service are novices with only 10 years in the industry and no info on who runs the show. The results section is very limited and from the past couple of months the strike rate is >40% winners but win price is around $2.70 for very small margins. A similar result could be achieved by only backing horeses under $3 that are well supported rather than paying someone $1000 to give you the info by phone! Still, if you like a consistent strike rate and don't mind the short oddsthen there are worse systems about! Recommended 'value' prices to be taken would be advised as no good backing a $3 chance if it is paying $2.80

5. Any other systems???

Let us know by using the contact form. We've been assessing ratings systems (and our own) for over 25 years now so have a fair idea of the industry.

So far there have been 37 LOTD and 8 of them have saluted, or 20%($5.00). The average SP is $2.70!!! Not a bad profit margin! These lays are pretty short favourites so expect a few of them to roll in, but overall they are POOR value the win. In fact, you need to get better than $5.00 for them to be value.

Here is the weekly updated spreadsheet currently showing $17,000 profit. As we need to find quite short ones to lay, there is not a LOTD every week. Some weeks there may be 2 or 3.

Our minds are stuck in a false paradigm that when we GIVE we LOSE something, but this is simply not true. When you give a FAVOUR (join LIONS, help a mate, do meals on wheels for the elderly, have a cup of tea with someone lonely) you build your FAVOUR bank.

Let me explain a bit more in a discussion with YOU:

If you are good at maths, focus on that; if you are good at predicting events, go with that; if you are good at art or running or music, go with that and develop the skill further. DONT focus on your DEVIANCE (what you fail to do well, or can't do, or things that bring you negative attention).

A good punter in life will invariably utilize the talents he or she possesses. If you are not good with basic stats then don't try using the Don Scott ratings method. Find an approach that suits your competence (skills or attributes that you have, that not everybody has, but is wanted and needed by others).

Shouldn't I practice things I'm not good at??

NO! Not if you are going to then neglect your competence. It makes no sense. The world NEEDS you and your COMPETENCE. it doesn't want you focusing on what your not good at!

So.....if I'm good at maths at school but no good at English I should focus on Maths???

Now you're getting it!! The more competence you can show the more deviance will be tolerated in you by society in general. Competence gives you access to the community, it gives you contacts and it gives you QUALITY OF LIFE (regardless of your deviance)

LESSON 3 SLOWING DOWN!

This is REALLY tough in todays world, but if you can just practice it the world of punting is yours. I wont go into the details of why as I'm not sure you've grasped lessons 1 & 2 yet so just follow me blindly for now. I want you to do this:

1. Find a task you do either every day or a few times a week and slow it down 5 fold

2. Ok - you go and get the paper every Sunday morning and the walk takes you 20 mins. I want you to do it next Sunday and take the same route but take 100 mins! It might be your walk to work which takes 30 mins....do it but take 150 mins

3. Do this 5 fold trick twice a week for 3 months (less than 1% of people will do it so i don't hold much hope)

4. When taking your stroll 5 times slower use your time to check the guttering, the houses, the smells, the leaves on the ground, the insects. Where are the ants nests? Are they active? Is it going to rain? What birds are about? Why are Mrs Smiths blinds still closed? Say hello to old Bart. SLOW.

The best punters in the world are experts at SLOW! It needs practice. Experience in SLOW gives you respect for the world, gives you patience and makes you LESS likely to make impulsive errors. Some other hints on goal setting follow:

A] Choose the mountain (goal) you want to climb: don’t pay attention to what other people say, such as “that one’s more beautiful” or “this one’s easier”. You’ll be spending lots of energy and enthusiasm to reach your objective, so you’re the only one responsible and you should be sure of what you’re doing.

B] Know how to get close to it: mountains are often seen from far off – beautiful, interesting, full of challenges. But what happens when we try to draw closer? Roads run all around them, flowers grow between you and your objective, what seemed so clear on the map is tough in real life. So try all the paths and all the tracks until eventually one day you’re standing in front of the top that you yearn to reach.

C] Learn from someone who has already been up there: no matter how unique you feel, there is always someone who has had the same dream before you and ended up leaving marks that can make your journey easier; places to hang the rope, trails, broken branches to make the walking easier. The climb is yours, so is the responsibility, but don’t forget that the experience of others can help a lot. Just because they have been there does NOT make them better than you.

D] When seen up close, dangers are controllable: when you begin to climb the mountain of your dreams, pay attention to the surroundings. There are cliffs, of course. There are almost imperceptible cracks in the mountain rock. There are stones so polished by storms that they have become as slippery as ice. But if you know where you are placing each footstep, you will notice the traps and how to get around them. Practice being SLOW again!

E] The landscape changes, so enjoy it: of course, you have to have an objective in mind – to reach the top. But as you are going up, more things can be seen, and it’s no bother to stop now and again and enjoy the panorama around you. At every meter conquered, you can see a little further, so use this to discover things that you still had not noticed.

F] Respect your body: you can only climb a mountain if you give your body the attention it deserves. You have all the time that life grants you, as long as you walk without demanding what can’t be granted. If you go too fast you will grow tired and give up half way there. Enjoy the scenery, take delight in the cool spring water and the fruit that nature generously offers you, but keep on walking.....slowly.

G] Respect your soul: don’t keep repeating “I’m going to make it”. Your soul already knows that, what it needs is to use the long journey to be able to grow, stretch along the horizon, touch the sky. An obsession does not help you at all to reach your objective, and even ends up taking the pleasure out of the climb (see Gamblers Help). But pay attention: also, don’t keep saying “it’s harder than I thought”, because that will make you lose your inner strength.

H] Be prepared to climb one kilometer more: the way up to the top of the mountain is always longer than you think. Don’t fool yourself, the moment will arrive when what seemed so near is still very far. But since you were prepared to go beyond, this is not really a problem.

I] Be happy when you reach the top: cry, clap your hands, shout to the four winds that you did it, let the wind - (the wind is always blowing up there so be bloody careful!)- purify your mind, refresh your tired and sweaty feet, open your eyes, clean the dust from your heart. It feels so good, what was just a dream before, a distant vision, is now part of your life, you did it!

J] Make a promise: now that you have discovered a force that you were not even aware of, tell yourself that from now on you will use this force for the rest of your days. Preferably, also promise to discover another mountain, and set off on another adventure.

PRACTICE GOING SLOW!!! Map out 4 square metres of your backyard. Sit down for 30 mins and study it in minute detail. Smell it, scratch it, dig it up a bit, stare at it, write about it, taste the fucking thing! Work around your garden til you know why and how it works. Its a different perspective that gets you value!

"Im telling you - it doesn't matter what we do it will happen again anyway. " .....does this ring a bell? This is a Predictor of the Inevitable speaking. They state the bleeding obvious, engender apathy, they say "we told you so", use no energy in their life if they can help it, and offer no new solutions. "Been there, done that" sort of people.

To get true value in your punting and in life generally, you need to surround yourself with Pursuers of the Possible and avoid Predictors of the Inevitable. Here is a little table that might help you remember who to make contacts with and to build your Favour Bank (read Lesson 1).

Even though the record for telling the future is no as good as predictors, it is better to test your strenght and be wrong than believe in weakness and be right. Don’t fall foul of the favourite/longshot bias i.e. Horses with short odds (i.e., favorites) tend to win even more frequently than indicated by the final market odds, while horses with long odds (i.e., longshots) win less. So, don’t underestimate the chances of preferred contenders and overestimate the changes of marginal contenders. STOP looking for the big outsider and focus on VALUE

To be a winner, one must know or perceive things which the public must not grasp. If there is no special insight then there will be no special odds, no bargains, no overlays; the more that information is used by the public, the less it pays off at the bookies

Picking winners is easy. Beating the odds is not. There are thousands of 'tipsters' out there that strike at 50% but still make a loss.

In order to make money betting on sports, you must either have information that is not being used by the betting public, or you must have a superior ability to process the information that is public.

2% of punters make regular annual profits.....60% say they do....most punters are liars

Almost all punters using commercially paid for systems still lose money....be warned! Even with great tipping results and staking methods recommended, human nature takes over and "off goes the punters head"

Yes...we bet...BUT...the MOST important lesson and learning is knowing when NOT TO BET and this is most of the time. The Tajodds website avoids the dangerous or risky races where there are toomany unknown factors like horses coming off wet track from, first up or second up form, or where many runners have suffered checks or wide running so it is hard to assess their chances. We also avoid races where we assess too many chances.

Yeah, Yeah...heard it all before! Be selective etc etc etc

You hear but you don't act dimwit. You decide to stick only with the Ace Tip but then you see the Biggest Value Horse making money and you jump ship....then you follow Deano...then a mate who has a maiden in at Geelong. You just don't learn do you?

But you're no fun!

Yes I am ....see...I can smile! Just TRY something and stick with it for once! ...or are you addicted??? If you NEED more action...employ it! Make some rules for selections. Here is an example:

1. Do your own form however you do it...I don't care if it is on names, colours, number patterns ...whatever...but have some ownership (hey Worts are u there?)

2. Select a few horses you like based ONLY on your assumptions

3. Filter these by using a quality rater (e.g. Tajodds or Expertform). If Tajodds doesn't rate them a chance then wipe them

4. Set a price you are prepared to take for your bet or use the Tajodds price

5. Back your horses with 2.5 % of a REAL bank. If you only have $100 that is $2.50 folks! I mean it! Don't pretend coz even the Ace Tip who has increased the bank over 1000% has had a run of outs of 17 in the last year! Be Warned!

6. THis point is too tough for you I know. Stick with your rules for 12 months

7. Do it today. Draw up your rules, monitor your bets, set up your separate bank account, avoid the tips even ours! Don't just try...DO IT! If you need action , employ it , but with good rules.

8. DON"T bet if you can't get your price! I know it is annoying when your selection wins and you opted out but this rule is vital. We often rate horses well on top that also become our LAY OF THE DAY because they are far too short in the market. They move from horses to invest on to horses to avoid! NEVER just bet on selections or tips...make sure you set a minimum price you are willing to take.

9. NEVER bet under even money ($2.00)

1. DON"T be like a sheep and follow the money. IGNORE the market movers and stick to your decision and facts. 90% of horses that win races drift in the market and you end up with better value.

2. NEVER bet on heavy tracks, but more importantly NEVER bet when tracks are deteriorating or slippery. Horses hate it and form goes out the window.

3. Leave maiden horses alone. Horses are herd animals and some just nver want to win despite their ability.

4. Don't bet on horses first up. Even the trainers don't really know how they will go fresh against fitter opposition.

5. Beware of 'systems' that just list rules to follow. These have usually been put together based on history that doesn't repeat (at least whilst you use it!)

6. If you bet for fun only, be prepared to lose your investment and consider it entertainment

7. If you bet for profit you need a business plan, high discipline and sound tools (selection and staking methods)

8. Nearly all punters lose because of poor staking consistency, lack of a bank, and faith in their method during runs of outs. The Ace Tip is the best selection tip in Australia, but it can have a run of outs like any other (e.g.16 recently) but still averages >30% winners at $6.

9. Use speed maps to find which horses can lead off a moderate pace and give these horses a big bonus when doing your form.

10. Some jockeys actually ride better from a wide draw (e.g. B Rawiller). Give these horses a bonus if drawn wide.

11. Some jockeys love to lead and rate their horses (e.g. Gauci). Use the speed maps to find if their horses can lead off a moderate pace and allocate a big bonus if so.

12. Don't back favourites in Class 1 races if they have just come off a good maiden win. The nearly always represent poor value.

13. Don't bet on horses under $2.00 even if you or Tajodds has rated them shorter. Over many years of Australian racing these horses represent poor betting value.

14. Zabeel 3yo fillies over 1400 are well worth a look

15. Zabeel horses jumping from 1400 to 2000 or further can improve much more than other breeds in general. We often allocate 6kg improvement with success.

16. Weight can stop a train, but it stops classy horses less than average horses. The high class horse has the ability to carry weights more efficiently, so don't get stuck in pure handicapping mode and miss the best horse in the race.

17. Barriers are not as important as trainers and punters think they are. After many years of asessing and checking results, it is the position in running that is important and barrier advantage/disadvantage is related to that position.

18. Never chase your losses, or use suicidal plans where you increase bets until you win. That is the worst staking method of all and causes suicide! NEVER increase bets just because you had a win, unless it is part of your long term plan and based on a % of your bank

19. Don't listen to jockeys or owners as they are the worst judges

20. Don't risk heavy investment on a horse unless the jockey is very competent

Take best fluc or best tote mix if no fixed odds recommended

They are calculated by assessing the horses they ride by the Tajodds price i.e. their EXPECTED win ratio, multiplied by the ACTUAL win ratio. This tells us which jockeys over and under perform and is MUCH more accurate than simply win ratio. These TAJODDS E Ratings are then converted into Kg ratings. One standard deviation from the mean will mean 1.5Kg bonus or penalty. The FREAK rider who performs 2 or 3 standard deviations from the mean can receive a MASSIVE 3.0 to 4.5Kg bonus.

95 % of punter lose! of course that's not you is it? The die is cast and it is very heavily weighted against you winning over time for various simple reasons:

• 16% comes out in win/place tax for a start!
• Human beings have little or no discipline when punting for pleasure
• Only 5% treat punting as an investment and those 5% take most of the profits
• punters chase loses
• winning punters today, lose tomorrow
• people seek the BIG collects and miss the little profits available

The ONLY way to win is to invest when the ODDS are in your favour. Winning is not about just selecting winners as any tipping service can do that. In fact some tipping services get 40% strike rates with their top selections, but still lose (average price pays < $2.40).

Focus on the special Tajodds selections where you can get BIG value over our value price. Limit your punting! Don't bet when tracks shift in condition or are heavy. Don't look for 'outsiders' in your multiples as this is just dreaming and lining others pockets. Don't bet each way. bet straight out flat stake or to win a set amount, and use exotics like quadrellas to avoid the tax burden (only 45 per race!)

How to find out the "base rating" of a horse

The 'base' rating is the horses best run this preparation, or if first up, their best rating last preparation. A rating is calculated for every run a horse has so the 'base' is the best of these. To find the 'base' you need to understand class and handicapping ratings. A high quality Group One race may be rated as a 66Kg race, whilst a Maiden event at packenham may be rated a 40Kg race or 26Kg different in class. Here are two examples:

Kingston Town wins the Cox Plate rated a 64Kg race and he carries 59Kg in weight. he suffered no interference and the race was run clean and did not run wide. The 'limit' weight for the race was 51Kg so he carried 8Kg at WFA conditions (51 + 8 = 59Kg) so his 'base' here is the class 64 + weight 8Kg = 72Kg

Zephyr Dot wins a Class 1 event rated 43Kg for class and carries 55Kg in a 51 limit race so rates 47Kg (43 + 4).

1.5Kg = 1 length so if they finish 2 lengths back you minus 3kg off their base. You also adjust for wide running, checks, bad draws or runs in races etc as this is where knowledge = value

Just as a guide here are some of our "class" ratings

3yo restricted = 45Kg

3yo open city = 50Kg

Restricted Hcp City = 52Kg

Open City Hcp = 56Kg

What is age improvement?

Horses improve naturally as they mature and thus so do their ratings. Some sprinting types mature quickly and can jump ratings 4-5Kg easily from 2yo to 3yo. Some staying types can improve steadily each year from 3, 4 5 and 6 but rarely improve from 7yo.

It is risky betting when there are horses first up with age improvement because it is difficult to assess. Avoid betting where the main chances are first up.

What about form improvement and patterns?

This could fill a book! Each horse has its own form pattern from steady increase, trough pattern where they build up to their best after 4 starts, plateau, then decline, or occasionally start high and simply decline. Some trainers have this pattern as well!!

How do you assess "pace" in a race?

Essentially experience of the beasts themselves and the jockeys. It is important though, much more so than barriers! racing & Sports have a speed map tool but it is very average in accuracy. Expertform has a better one but it is costly! We give horses a bonus of up to 3kg if they are likely to race on the pace in a slow run race, and up to -3.0 if out the back in a slow run race etc

The impact of weight?

We typically use a 51Kg 'limit' for most races. So, if a horses is carrying 56Kg it is 5Kg over the limit and this 5kg gets taken off their race day rating. Some horses handle big weights better than others (e.g. Desert War) so we need to be wary of being too methodic with this factor.

How do you pull it all together to get a race rating?

Easy! Look at our ratings for the big races. Desert War in the Queen Elizabeth has a 'base' rating this time of 65.0 but his previous form patterns suggest he can run a 68 now so it is +3.0 Kg on his base (or form improvement). He gets 1.0 for consistency in winning (winning horses keep winning, losers keep losing), track bonus of 1.0 because he goes well at randwick and 1.5 bonus for distance where he rates highest. He carries 59 at WFA so -8.0 Kg from a 51 limit. Minus 1.5 for Blake Shinn(-3.0 is an average jockey rating)His rating is thus 65+3+1.0+1.5-1.5-8.0 = 61.0

Who are the best "tipsters" to follow or do they all lose?

Most tipsters in the media lose if you bet on them flat stake. Years ago we did an analysis on the 3UZ best bets from the trackmen and the only one to show profit was Les O/Briem from Mornington, but that was a long time ago. More recently a friend of ours did some checking over the last 18 months and Dean Lester had a strike rate of 30% on his Melb best bets on Saturdays and made 15 % profit on outlay, but all others lost. The last 5 months Tony Brassel best bets had a great strike rate of 33% but the average price was only $2.60!

We aren't precious here at Tajodds so if you think you have found a great value tipster let us know and we will research them over the year. Remember, nearly ALL media tipsters lose on outlay even with their best bets and rarely, if ever quote value prices. How can you win when you don't know what the value is????

Race 2

Precedence is a bit one paced but looks suited here over the 2000m. Carbon Trader is tough but lacks class and Viking Hero has class but is very green and could find trouble here. No great value on offer Precedence.

Race 3

Response look a promising type and the early $3.80 was very nice thank you! Still some value on offer. Delta Gee suited ok

Race 5

Nasty race as the best animals get out the back off a slowish pace. Flying Tessie rates very well but the pace is some concern. Running Riot might be some value as improves quickly second up.

Race 6

Vigor ran a bottler second up in the Makybe last time and if he runs up to that effort might be too good for the high class Dao Dao

Race 7

Set for Fame,Denman and Linton - hard to split them so might just lay Denman who will be quite short. Mile no prob for Denman but these other 2 are very good and who knows about Linton??

Race 8

Preferred Heart of Dreams off the 14 days rather than the 21 but he still looks well suited. Went to the line well over 1800 and improves 6Kg 3rd up so must go close and will be up near the speed in a moderate pace where Barbaricus and Divine Rebel could be well placed and hard to get passed. Zarita rates well but I hate that lapse she has mid race as she loses position against the tough lads, but if she gets out to big odds can still be value.
